t'goosh!

with the eos400d's ir cut low-pass filter, i was worried that it may not perform well enough on infrared photography. so, i first tested it using our tv remote controller. well, it did manage to "see" the ir light from the remote:



so, to try it on ir photog, i used ef50mmf/1.8 which has a 52mm filter thread, since my r72 ir-pass filter has that thread size. hand-held shooting (wasn't able to bring a tripod back then) at 1/80, f1.8, iso1600, i got this shot:


and decomposing the image into rgb yielded these:


the blue component is blocked out almost totally (as it should) but this means no fancy weird colors for other objects, though i still have to test this to confirm. since the red component is a bit noisy, i combined it with the green component (with opacity set at 17%). then bringing it back to the rgb realm, and colorizing it (i chose a bluish hue since blue is my favorite color and it was neglected somehow in this shot), here is what it finally looked like:


well, i guess the eos400d can still perform well enough on ir photog. and i like having to shoot in ir while holding it by hand instead of using a tripod. and this summer is perfect since there will be lots of days with lots of sun and ir photog will be much fun with that. =]
